A visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial
On the way to Pittsburgh for a family visit this past weekend, I stopped at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The minimalistic memorial of white marble panels, each bearing the name of a passenger or a flight crew member who died there September 11, 2001, is somber. Like that fateful day, the weather during my visit was sunny and bright, and the wind was brisk on the mountainside. A perfect day for reflection on the attack on America. For directions:
If you are interested in visiting, you can get directions and hours at www.nps.gov/flni. The memorial is approximately 24 miles from Exit 110 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
